The Leonkoro Quartet returns to Wigmore Hall for a programme pairing Schubert with contemporary Finnish composer Sauli Zinovjev.
The Berlin-based ensemble rose to international prominence in 2022, when it won First Prize at the Wigmore Hall International String Quartet Competition as well as nine of the competition’s specialist prizes. The quartet comprises violinists Jonathan Schwarz and Emiri Kakiuchi, violist Mayu Konoe and cellist Lukas Schwarz.
Its Wigmore Hall programme includes a new work by Zinovjev, whose music has been praised for its energy and unpredictability, alongside Schubert’s String Quartet No. 13 in A minor, D 804, known as the ‘Rosamunde’ Quartet. Written in 1824, the work takes its nickname from the theme of its second movement, drawn from Schubert’s incidental music for Rosamunde.
