Tenor Jonas Kaufmann has warned the public about an unauthorised biography being sold online, saying the publication was released without his knowledge or authorisation and that there are indications it may have been created using artificial intelligence.
In a statement shared through his official social media channels, Kaufmann wrote:
“This publication took place without the knowledge and authorisation of Jonas Kaufmann. Various signs confirm the assumption that this could be an AI-created ‘biography’.”
The singer did not identify the publisher in his statement, but the book is currently being offered through online retailers. Kaufmann urged readers to treat the publication with caution, making clear that he had no involvement in its production.
Growing concerns over AI-generated books
While unauthorised biographies of public figures are not uncommon, Kaufmann’s warning highlights a newer issue facing the publishing industry: the growing number of books suspected of having been generated largely or entirely with artificial intelligence.
In recent months, journalists, authors and other public figures have reported discovering AI-generated biographies and summaries being sold through major online marketplaces, often without their knowledge or participation. The phenomenon has raised concerns about accuracy, transparency and consumer trust.
Kaufmann has not announced any legal action regarding the publication.
