Garsington Opera’s 2026 production of La traviata is this week’s Moto Play: a chance to watch Verdi’s tragedy free on OperaVision, with Madison Leonard as Violetta, Oleksiy Palchykov as Alfredo and Roland Wood as his father, Giorgio Germont.
Behind the glitter of Parisian parties, Violetta faces illness and the prospect of a life cut short. Her relationship with Alfredo offers the possibility of happiness away from that world, but his family’s demands force her into a painful sacrifice. Verdi places her emotional life at the centre of an opera in which love collides with social respectability.
Louisa Muller directs, with designs by Christopher Oram, reuniting the creative team behind Garsington’s Platée, also featured on OperaVision. Douglas Boyd conducts the Philharmonia Orchestra alongside the Garsington Opera Chorus.
Recorded on 20 July 2026, the performance will be available for six months, with subtitles in English and Italian.
Watch the complete performance below from 16 October.
