Daniel Barenboim reveals Parkinson’s diagnosis, reaffirms commitment to music

Daniel Barenboim has announced that he has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. In a statement, he shared that while he has been navigating this new reality, he remains committed to his musical projects, particularly the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra.
“I have been very touched by the support I have received over the last three years,” Barenboim wrote. “Looking ahead, I am planning to maintain as many of my professional commitments as my health permits.”
He emphasized that the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra remains his top priority: “It is essential for me to ensure the orchestra’s long-term stability and development.” While he will continue conducting whenever possible, he also intends to secure opportunities for the ensemble to work with other excellent conductors in the future.
Barenboim concluded by expressing gratitude for the kindness and well-wishes he has received and noted that his focus is on receiving the best available care.
