The Berliner Philharmoniker has announced that chief conductor Kirill Petrenko will be unable to lead the orchestra’s concerts from 13 to 15 February, as well as the family concert on 16 February, due to medical advice requiring a three-week break for further treatment. This follows his previous cancellation of concerts from 29 to 31 January due to health reasons.
In a statement, the orchestra expressed deep regret over Petrenko’s continued absence but assured audiences that David Robertson will step in to conduct the concerts as scheduled. The program remains unchanged.
David Robertson is a conductor with a long-standing relationship with the Berliner Philharmoniker since his debut in 2002.
Robertson conducted the European premiere of Srnka’s Superorganisms in June 2024 at the Prague Spring International Music Festival. Now, he steps in on short notice to lead the work’s German premiere in Berlin.
The Berliner Philharmoniker and Kirill Petrenko have expressed their gratitude to Robertson for accepting the role at such short notice.
