While the Fryderyk Chopin Museum in Warsaw remains closed for renovation, part of its collection is being presented in a major exhibition at the Art Museum of the National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) in Beijing.
Running from 25 July to 25 October, Meeting Chopin traces the composer’s life from Żelazowa Wola and Warsaw to Paris through manuscripts, letters, artworks and memorabilia from the museum’s collection. The exhibition also examines Chopin’s influence on the visual arts and contemporary culture.
Particular emphasis is given to the history of the International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition, whose centenary will be celebrated in 2027. Among the exhibits are medals from previous editions of the Competition and a replica of the silver laurel wreath presented to Halina Czerny-Stefańska after her victory in 1949.
The Beijing exhibition follows The Poet of the Piano, presented earlier this year at the Suzhou Museum, and reflects the Chopin Museum’s continued international activity while its Warsaw headquarters undergoes refurbishment.
