Gounod’s Faust returns to La Scala

Gounod’s Faust returns to La Scala for the first time since 2010. Drawing on the first part of Goethe’s drama, the opera follows an aging scholar who trades his soul for renewed youth. The bargain sets Marguerite’s tragedy in motion, and Gounod traces her transformation from the delight of the Jewel Song to the desperation of the final prison scene.

Daniele Rustioni returns to La Scala, where he last conducted Verdi’s Il trovatore in 2014. Johannes Erath makes his company debut following his Abbiati Award for the staging of Rossini’s Ermione at the 2024 Rossini Opera Festival. LaScalaTv streams the final performance of the run.
