Robert Kružík to become music director of Prague National Theatre from 2028

The National Theatre Prague has announced that Robert Kružík will become its new music director from the 2028 season.

The appointment was confirmed by incoming general director Martin Glaser, who will take up his position in 2028. Kružík is expected to work closely with Glaser and with the company’s artistic leadership, including director Jiří Heřman.

In its official statement, the theatre presents Kružík as a conductor of the younger generation who has established himself on the Czech operatic scene. He currently serves as chief conductor of the Janáček Theatre in Brno and has developed a broad repertoire across symphonic and operatic works.

Kružík’s appointment forms part of a longer-term leadership transition at the Prague institution, with the new team set to take shape from 2028. The theatre frames the decision within a strategy aimed at continuity while opening space for a new artistic perspective.
