While not related by blood, Marc-André Hamelin and Charles Richard-Hamelin share the distinction of being two of Canada’s most celebrated pianists on the international stage. In this recital from Bourgie Hall, both artists combine their virtuosity in a journey spanning three centuries of music for piano duet. The program opens with the classicism of Mozart and the fiery spirit of a young Chopin, followed by the romanticism of Cécile Chaminade and the introspection of Nikolai Medtner. The performance concludes with Percy Grainger’s Fantasy on Porgy and Bess, a medley that revisits the most famous themes from Gershwin’s opera.
