Jean-Guihen Queyras takes on one of the great monuments of the cello repertoire with a complete performance of Bach’s six Suites for solo cello at Wigmore Hall on Saturday, 12 September. The concert, lasting approximately two hours and 40 minutes including an interval, will be streamed live and free on YouTube.
The six suites, BWV 1007–1012, occupy a central place in Queyras’s musical life. The French cellist has recorded the complete cycle twice, and his long engagement with the works has made Bach a recurring presence throughout his career.
Presented chronologically, the programme traces the extraordinary range Bach draws from a single unaccompanied instrument, from the familiar opening of the G major Suite to the expansive and technically demanding Sixth Suite in D major. Wigmore Hall describes Queyras’s approach as combining close attention to detail with a finely judged sense of changing emotion and natural musical flow.
The performance begins at 7.00pm BST (18:00 GMT) and can be watched live below.
