Henry Kennedy is a young and promising conductor from Nova Scotia, Canada. At 27 years old, he has already made significant strides in his career. He recently became the first Resident Conductor of the National Arts Centre Orchestra (NACO) in Ottawa. Kennedy’s background includes conducting roles in both opera and orchestral music, and he has spent much of his professional life in the United Kingdom.
Before his appointment with NACO, Kennedy served as the conductor for the Wroclaw Opera in Poland during the 2022-2023 season. Additionally, he was the assistant conductor to the renowned sir John Eliot Gardiner for a production of Berlioz’s Les Troyens, which toured prestigious venues, including the Salzburg Festival and the BBC Proms.
Kennedy is also the founder and music director of the Resonate Symphony Orchestra in London, which he established in 2017.
His education includes a Master of Arts in conducting and a Bachelor of Music in clarinet from the Royal Academy of Music in London.
In his new role with NACO, Kennedy is expected to work closely with the orchestra’s music director, Alexander Shelley, as well as participate in a conductor exchange program with major Canadian orchestras, including the Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra.
