Alessandro Galoppini has been appointed artistic director of the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, beginning his tenure on 10 March 2026, the company announced.
His appointment follows the recent renewal of contracts for several members of the theatre’s artistic leadership: music director Michele Mariotti, ballet director Eleonora Abbagnato, and chorus master Ciro Visco, all confirmed in their roles until 2030.
Galoppini succeeds Paolo Arcà, who led the theatre’s artistic direction in recent years during a period of expansion for the Roman opera house.
A musician and arts administrator with extensive experience in Italian opera institutions, Galoppini previously served as artistic director of the Teatro Regio di Torino, where he also held the position of orchestra manager. Earlier in his career, he spent seven years as head of the vocal companies at Teatro alla Scala in Milan, working closely with many leading international artists.
