Sondra Radvanovsky appointed artistic advisor at Lyric Opera of Chicago

American soprano Sondra Radvanovsky has been appointed Artistic Advisor of the Lyric Opera of Chicago for the next five seasons, the company has announced as part of its 2026–27 season presentation.

The role formalises a long-standing relationship between Radvanovsky and the Chicago-based institution, often described by the singer as her “artistic home”. As Artistic Advisor, she will combine regular stage appearances with a broader involvement in the company’s artistic and educational activities.

According to the announcement, Radvanovsky will appear once per season on the mainstage, beginning with a concert in the 2026–27 season alongside tenor SeokJong Baek, conducted by Riccardo Frizza.

A central aspect of her new position will be her work with the Patrick G. and Shirley W. Ryan Opera Center, the company’s training programme for emerging singers. Radvanovsky is expected to lead masterclasses, mentorship initiatives, and career development activities, working closely with the next generation of artists.

“Lyric is my artistic home, and I am honored to deepen that bond in this very special new role,” Radvanovsky said in a statement. “Supporting the next generation of singers through the Ryan Opera Center is one of the most meaningful things I can imagine doing.”

The appointment reflects a broader trend among major opera houses to integrate leading performers into long-term advisory and mentoring roles, strengthening institutional identity while investing in artist development.

Radvanovsky has maintained a close association with Lyric Opera of Chicago throughout her career, appearing in a wide range of repertory and building a strong connection with local audiences.
