Marco Medved appointed chorus master of Deutsche Oper Berlin from 2026–27 season

The Deutsche Oper Berlin has announced the appointment of Italian conductor and chorus director Marco Medved as its new chorus master, beginning in August 2026.

Medved will succeed Jeremy Bines, who is set to join the Staatsoper Stuttgart next summer.

In a statement released by the company, Medved described the appointment as “a great honour,” highlighting the international reputation of the Deutsche Oper’s chorus and expressing his intention to contribute to Berlin’s musical life. He also noted his anticipation of working in what he called a “cultural metropolis” with a wide-ranging artistic scene.

Trained at the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory in piano, composition, and conducting, Medved has built a career across major European and international institutions. His previous positions include roles at the Tyrolean Festival Erl, the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing, the South Tyrol Festival in Dobbiaco, and opera houses in Cologne and Bonn. Most recently, he served at the Teatro Petruzzelli.

Throughout his career, Medved has collaborated with conductors including Gustav Kuhn, Stefano Montanari, Wayne Marshall, and Fabio Luisi.
