Born in 1995 in Hannover into a musical family, Elisabeth Brauß began playing the piano at the age of four. Two years later, she received her first lessons from Jelena Levit. Later, she continued her studies at the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover with Levit, Matti Raekallio, and Bernd Goetzke.
Brauß has garnered significant recognition in the classical music world. In 2013, she won the Tonali Grand Prix in Hamburg, followed by the first prize at the Kissinger KlavierOlymp in 2016. She was a BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artist from 2018 to 2020 and made her BBC Proms debut in 2021. She also collaborates regularly with Wigmore Hall in London.
Critics have praised her for the maturity and sophistication of her interpretations. Her debut album, released in 2017, featured works by Beethoven, Prokofiev, Chopin, and Denhoff. In 2020, she contributed to an album of music by Max Richter. The following year, she collaborated with trumpeter Simon Höfele on an album featuring works by Arthur Honegger, Karl Pilss, Georges Enescu, Paul Hindemith, Jean Françaix, and Alexander Arutiunian.
In 2023, she recorded Grazyna Bacewicz’s Concerto for Two Pianos with pianist Peter Jablonski and the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra under Nicolas Collon. During the 2022/23 season, she was Artist in Residence at Edesche Concertzaal, performing both solo and chamber music recitals.
This year, she will embark on her first tour of the United States and Canada.
From an early age, Brauß knew she was meant to be a pianist. “Even if, for some reason, I had to do a different job, I would always walk the earth as a musician,” she says.
