The Vienna Philharmonic has confirmed the tenure of Yamen Saadi as one of its concertmasters, alongside welcoming several new members to the orchestra: Hannah Cho and Lucas Stratmann (violins), Paul Blüml (oboe), Alex Ladstätter (clarinet), and Christoph Hammer (viola).
Born in Nazareth in 1997, Saadi was first announced as concertmaster of the Vienna State Opera Orchestra and the Vienna Philharmonic in the 2022/23 season. His appointment marked the arrival of a young violinist already praised for a “beguiling sound” (Berliner Morgenpost), combining lyricism, virtuosity and elegance.
Saadi studied at the Barenboim-Said Academy and the Kronberg Academy, where he worked with Mihaela Martin. He is a prizewinner of the Aviv and Paul Ben Haim Competitions (2020) and plays the 1734 “Lord Amherst of Hackney” Stradivari, once owned by Fritz Kreisler, on loan from the Stretton Society.
