Spanish violinist María Dueñas joins conductor Gustavo Dudamel and the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela for a spirited performance of the opening movement of Édouard Lalo’s Symphonie espagnole, recorded at London’s iconic Abbey Road Studios.
The video offers a first glimpse of Homage to Heifetz, Dueñas’s forthcoming album, which celebrates the enduring influence of the legendary violinist Jascha Heifetz on her artistic development. Heifetz’s celebrated recordings of Lalo’s Symphonie espagnole and Violin Concerto are among the inspirations behind the project.
Alongside Lalo’s work, the album features Korngold’s concerto and orchestral and chamber miniatures by Claude Debussy and Manuel M. Ponce, including arrangements closely associated with Heifetz’s repertoire. Dueñas is accompanied by Dudamel and the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra in the orchestral works, while pianist Itamar Golan joins her for the chamber selections.
Homage to Heifetz will be released on 28 August on digital platforms, CD and vinyl. More information and pre-orders are available on Deutsche Grammophon’s album page.
