Nathalie Stutzmann extends as Music Director of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra through 2028–29

The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra (ASO) has extended Nathalie Stutzmann’s contract as Music Director through the 2028–29 season, continuing a collaboration that began in 2022.

The renewal follows the long tenure of Robert Spano (2001–22). Since taking up the post, Stutzmann has led projects in Atlanta including a complete Beethoven symphony cycle, a recording of Dvořák for Warner Classics—nominated for an OPUS Klassik—and the orchestra’s first week-long domestic tour in over a decade. She has also worked closely with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chorus.

In the announcement, ASO Executive Director Jennifer Barlament described Stutzmann’s impact on the orchestra’s profile and audience connection. Stutzmann called the renewal “both a joy and an inspiration,” noting an artistic bond with the players “rooted in trust, curiosity and the shared love of discovery.”

Upcoming ASO dates under her direction include Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 1 with Francesco Piemontesi and Symphony No. 9 with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chorus.
