OVERVIEW
In this second instalment of a three-part tribute to Ravel’s chamber music at the 2025 Rencontres Musicales d’Évian, four acclaimed artists come together to interpret some of the composer’s most intimate and demanding works. Violinist Pierre Fouchenneret and cellist Julia Hagen open the programme with the emotionally complex Sonata for Violin and Cello, a work dedicated to Debussy’s memory and written with striking austerity and precision. Then, joined by pianist Guillaume Bellom, Fouchenneret takes on Tzigane, Ravel’s rhapsodic homage to Hungarian folk flair. Finally, pianist Arthur Hinnewinkel adds his voice to a refined rendition of the Piano Trio in A minor, where the ensemble explores the work’s dreamlike textures and ends with an energetic Basque-infused flourish.
Filmed at Évian’s renowned Grange au Lac, the concert is part of a festival that has become a major chamber music destination under the artistic direction of violinist Renaud Capuçon.
