The 25-year-old Ukrainian conductor will begin a two-year residency at the Opéra national de Paris in September 2026 while continuing her work with Ensemble intercontemporain.
The Opéra national de Paris has appointed Ukrainian conductor Polina Lebedieva as its new Conductor-in-Residence, beginning in September 2026. The appointment will run for two years, through 2028.
Lebedieva, 25, began her musical education in Kyiv before continuing her studies at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris (CNSMDP), where she trained with conductor Alain Altinoglu.
She also serves as Assistant Conductor of Ensemble intercontemporain, one of the world’s leading contemporary music ensembles, under a two-year appointment running until early 2028.
Her previous distinctions include reaching the semi-finals of both the Mahler Conducting Competition and the International Conducting Competition Rotterdam. She has also been named a Britten Pears Young Artist, received the Prix Fabuleuse Signature on two occasions, participated in Riccardo Muti’s Italian Opera Academy, and was selected for the 2026–2028 Taki Alsop Conducting Fellowship.
The Paris Opera residency marks the latest appointment in a career that has seen Lebedieva work across both the operatic and contemporary orchestral repertoire in France and internationally.
