The Chamber Orchestra of Europe returns to Esterházy Palace with Sir Antonio Pappano for a programme that combines two cornerstones of their repertoire. Spanish violinist Maria Dueñas takes centre stage in Lalo’s Symphonie espagnole, a concerto-style work from 1874 whose brilliance and rhythmic drive have made it a favourite for generations of performers.
The evening continues with Dvořák’s Slavonic Dances, Op. 46 — pieces the COE knows intimately, having recorded the complete cycles with Nikolaus Harnoncourt to wide acclaim. Inspired by the energy of Bohemian folk idioms and written in two sets during the late 1870s and 1880s, these dances remain among Dvořák’s most popular works.
The performance is streamed live from Esterházy Palace, a longstanding artistic home for the orchestra, and highlights the ensemble’s close collaboration with Pappano across European stages.
