Lucie Leguay appointed Music Director of the Sinfonietta de Lausanne

The Sinfonietta de Lausanne has announced the appointment of Lucie Leguay as its next Music Director, starting in the 2026–27 season. The French conductor succeeds David Reiland, who will conclude his tenure at the end of the current season after three terms with the orchestra.

A graduate of the Haute École de Musique de Lausanne (HEMU), Leguay first came to prominence at the Tremplin pour Jeunes Cheffes d’Orchestre at the Philharmonie de Paris in 2018. She won the 2023 Victoires de la Musique Classique in the “Révélation chef d’orchestre” category, consolidating her reputation as one of the leading conductors of her generation.

Her recent engagements include guest appearances with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, the Orchestre de Paris, the Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal, the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, the Konzerthausorchester Berlin, and the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra. Leguay is also an advocate for contemporary music, having collaborated with composers such as Peter Eötvös, Kaija Saariaho, and Heinz Holliger.

The Lausanne-based ensemble, founded in 1981, describes her appointment as the start of “an ambitious new chapter,” reflecting its commitment to connecting traditions with new creations and to broadening audiences. Leguay will lead the orchestra for an initial period of three seasons.

Before her tenure begins, she will conduct the Sinfonietta de Lausanne on 30 October 2025 in a programme featuring works by Ravel, Morfydd Llwyn Owen, and Brahms.
