Le Piano Symphonique opens with Argerich and a major comeback

The Le Piano Symphonique festival at Lucerne starts with legendary pianist Martha Argerich in the spotlight as Pianiste Associée. The festival will run from January 13-18, 2025, with three additional recitals during the 2025 season featuring piano stars Evgeny Kissin (March 13), Khatia Buniatishvili (April 26), and Krystian Zimerman (June 20). One of the highlights will be the closing concert with Argerich and friends, marking the return of cellist Mischa Maisky to the stage after six months of rehabilitation from surgery.

The festival will also feature highly anticipated performances. Turkish pianist Fazıl Say opens the festival with Bach’s Goldberg Variations, while Leif Ove Andsnes presents works by Grieg, Chopin, and contemporary composers. Italian pianist Beatrice Rana will perform Mendelssohn’s first piano concerto with the Luzerner Sinfonieorchester, and Kiveli Dörken will offer late romantic chamber music. Jazz lovers can enjoy Michael Wollny’s performance with harpsichordist Tamar Halperin.
