Chopin Competition 2025: 20 pianists advance to Stage III in Warsaw

The centenary edition of the Warsaw competition moves to its third round, with 20 pianists advancing from the second stage.

The 19th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition has entered its decisive phase as the jury, chaired by Garrick Ohlsson, announced the 20 pianists who will advance to Stage III.

The competition continues in Warsaw with performances by some of the most promising young pianists, marking the 100th anniversary of the event.

The pianists advancing to Stage III
The following 20 pianists have been admitted to the third stage, listed in alphabetical order:
Piotr Alexewicz (Poland), Kevin Chen (Canada), Yang [Jack] Gao (China), Eric Guo (Canada), David Khrikuli (Georgia), Shiori Kuwahara (Japan), Hyo Lee (South Korea), Hyuk Lee (South Korea), Tianyou Li (China), Xiaoxuan Li (China), Eric Lu (United States), Tianyao Lyu (China), Vincent Ong (Malaysia), Piotr Pawlak (Poland), Yehuda Prokopowicz (Poland), Miyu Shindo (Japan), Tomoharu Ushida (Japan), Zitong Wang (China), Yifan Wu (China), and William Yang (United States).

What lies ahead
Stage III will take place from October 14 to 16, followed by the finals from October 18 to 20, and three prize concerts on October 21–23.
A traditional commemoration on October 17 will mark the anniversary of Chopin’s death, featuring Mozart’s Requiem at the Holy Cross Church.

A centenary edition in motion
This edition, running from October 2 to 23, features 84 pianists from 19 countries—66 selected after live preliminary auditions and 19 through automatic entry from other major competitions.
The winner will receive a €60,000 first prize and a gold medal, from a total prize fund exceeding €240,000.

Legacy and prestige
First held in 1927, the International Chopin Piano Competition has been organized every five years since 1955 by the Fryderyk Chopin Institute. Devoted entirely to Chopin’s music, it has launched the careers of many leading pianists, including Maurizio Pollini, Martha Argerich, Krystian Zimerman, Yundi Li, Rafał Blechacz, and Seong-Jin Cho. The most recent winner, in 2021, was Bruce Liu of Canada.
