The Bochum City Council has confirmed the appointment of Aurel Dawidiuk as General Music Director and Intendant of the Anneliese Brost Musikforum Ruhr, effective from the 2026–27 season. The decision follows a unanimous vote by the Administrative Board of Kulturinstitute Bochum AöR, with the contract signing scheduled for 16 October.
Born in Hanover in 2000, Dawidiuk currently serves as Associate Conductor of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam, a position he has held since 2024. His appointment in Bochum marks a significant milestone in a career that has rapidly expanded across Europe and Asia.
In the 2025–26 season, Dawidiuk enters his second year with the Concertgebouw Orchestra, while also making débuts with the Dresden Philharmonic, Hamburg Symphony, NDR Radiophilharmonie, Wiener Kammerorchester, Stuttgart Philharmonic, Dortmund Philharmonic, Bremen Philharmonic, and China National Symphony Orchestra. He will also return to the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and the Bundesjugendorchester Deutschland.
Alongside his conducting activity, Dawidiuk maintains an international career as a pianist and organist, performing at venues such as the Berlin Philharmonie, Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Wiener Konzerthaus, Tonhalle Zürich, and Kölner Philharmonie. His 2026 organ recital tour will also include appearances at the CNDM Madrid.
Described by Hamburger Abendblatt as “a new star in the firmament of conductors,” Dawidiuk will succeed David Marlow, continuing the tradition of strong musical leadership at the Bochumer Symphoniker.
