Cape Symphony in Massachusetts has appointed Alyssa Wang as its next Music Director, following a year-long search that drew more than 200 applicants. Five finalists each conducted a Masterpiece concert during the 2024/25 season, with audience feedback contributing to the decision.
Wang, an award-winning conductor, violinist, and composer, is Co-Founder and Artistic Director of the Boston Festival Orchestra and Music Director of the Cincinnati Ballet. She has also served as Assistant Conductor of Boston Ballet and is a member of the Boston Chamber Music Society.
She has premiered several works, including her own violin concerto Swept Away, and appears on recordings such as Carlos Simon’s Grammy-nominated Requiem for the Enslaved. Recent honors include the 2024 New Music USA Creator Fund, the 2023 Solti Foundation Career Assistance Award, and the 2022 St. Botolph Emerging Artist Award.
“I am thrilled to be joining the Cape Symphony community as Music Director,” Wang said. “The Cape is such a vibrant and inspiring place, and I can’t wait to collaborate with the extraordinary musicians of the orchestra to create performances that reflect and connect with this remarkable community.”
Her debut as Music Director will take place with Holiday on the Cape on 5–7 December 2025 at the Barnstable Performing Arts Center.
