– Johann Sebastian Bach: Goldberg Variations, BWV 988
A year after his debut at Carnegie Hall, pianist Yunchan Lim returns to the same iconic stage for a performance of Bach’s Goldberg Variations, now streaming on Stage+.
The Goldberg Variations stand as one of the pinnacles of keyboard literature. From the opening and closing aria to the intricate range of 30 variations, Bach’s work demands clarity, imagination, and absolute control.
In this recital, recorded earlier this month in New York, Lim brings his distinctive artistry and deep focus to a piece that balances structure with expressive freedom. His approach offers a fresh look at a timeless masterwork—now available for on-demand streaming.
OVERVIEW
Yunchan Lim, born in 2004 in South Korea, gained worldwide recognition after winning the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in 2022 at just 18 years old, becoming the youngest ever winner in the competition’s history.
His performances have since drawn attention for their combination of technical assurance, musical maturity, and interpretive insight well beyond his years. Lim has performed with major orchestras and at leading venues worldwide, and his Chopin and Rachmaninoff interpretations have earned critical acclaim.
This performance at Carnegie Hall, part of a rapidly expanding international career, marks his first solo recording of Bach’s Goldberg Variations and adds a significant milestone to his growing discography.
