OperaVision brings us the grand finale of Wagner’s epic cycle, Der Ring des Nibelungen, with a live stream of Götterdämmerung.
With this production, La Monnaie concludes its new staging of the Ring cycle, which began in the 2023-24 season with Das Rheingold and Die Walküre. The production is directed by Pierre Audi, who also staged Siegfried earlier this season. Originally, La Monnaie had entrusted the entire tetralogy to Romeo Castellucci, but after directing the first two operas, he stepped away from the project, leaving Audi to take over. The musical direction remains in the hands of Alain Altinoglu, who has conducted all three previous instalments of the cycle.

The cast includes:
✨ Siegfried – Bryan Register
✨ Gunther – Andrew Foster-Williams
✨ Alberich – Scott Hendricks
✨ Hagen – Ain Anger
✨ Brünnhilde – Ingela Brimberg

OVERVIEW

In Götterdämmerung (Twilight of the Gods), Wagner brings his monumental saga to a dramatic close. The opera follows Siegfried and Brünnhilde as their love is betrayed through deception, setting in motion a chain of events that leads to destruction and rebirth. With its intricate musical structure and powerful storytelling, Götterdämmerung is the most expansive and emotionally charged work of the cycle, culminating in the fiery end of the gods and the dawn of a new world.
