Verbier Festival to launch first edition in China in 2026

The Verbier Festival will expand beyond Switzerland for the first time in its 32-year history, with a new winter edition set to take place in Shenzhen, China, from 30 January to 8 February 2026. The ten-day event, developed in partnership with Wu Promotion and supported by the Shenzhen Municipal Bureau of Culture, Radio, Television, Tourism, and Sports, will present more than 25 concerts and events.

Shenzhen was selected after a review of several candidate cities, in recognition of its cultural infrastructure, location, and growing profile as an international arts hub. The project marks the beginning of a “Summer in Verbier, Winter in Shenzhen” partnership and coincides with the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Switzerland in 2025.

The inaugural programme will feature artists including Martha Argerich, Lang Lang, Joshua Bell, Mischa Maisky, Janine Jansen, Mikhail Pletnev, Gautier Capuçon, Bryn Terfel, Bruce Liu, Daniel Lozakovich, Alexander Malofeev, Marc Bouchkov, Timothy Ridout, and Daniel Blendulf. The Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Gábor Takács-Nagy, will appear as orchestra-in-residence for six concerts.

In addition to concerts, the festival will offer masterclasses, mentoring sessions, and educational activities for young musicians from Asia and beyond, as well as public workshops and collaborations with local institutions. Venues will include the new Shenzhen Longgang International Arts Centre, scheduled to open in late 2025, and the Shenzhen Concert Hall.

A press conference to announce the full programme and ticketing details will be held in Shenzhen in autumn 2025.
