Stéphanie Huang l Cellist

Stéphanie Huang: a cello voice at the heart of Europe

Stéphanie Huang grew up surrounded by music. Born in 1996 in Montigny-le-Tilleul, near Charleroi, she comes from a family of musicians: her father is a violinist, her mother a cellist, and her sister Sylvia a violinist who also reached the finals of the Queen Elisabeth Competition. It was almost inevitable that Stéphanie would pick up an instrument — and she chose the cello, guided at first by her mother.

By the age of twelve, she was already stepping onto a major stage, playing Tchaikovsky’s Rococo Variations at the Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie in Brussels. Her studies then took her from the Royal Conservatory of Brussels to the Conservatoire de Paris, and later to the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel, where she worked with teachers such as Marc Coppey and Gary Hoffman.

Her career has unfolded quickly. In 2022, she was a laureate of the Queen Elisabeth International Music Competition, also receiving both public prizes — a moment that put her firmly on the international map. Invitations followed, with concerto performances ranging from Haydn to Dvořák and Elgar, alongside orchestras in Belgium, France, Germany, and beyond.

Chamber music has always been another part of her identity. Huang has appeared at festivals from Verbier to Matsumoto, sharing the stage with artists like Renaud Capuçon, Gary Hoffman, and Frank Braley. She often performs in duo with her sister, Sylvia, keeping the family connection alive in concert halls.

Since January 2025, she holds one of the most visible posts for any young cellist: principal cello of the Orchestre de Paris. At the same time, she has joined the faculty of the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, passing on what she has absorbed in her own journey.

Today, Huang plays on a historic instrument — a Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume cello generously loaned by the Adelus Endowment Fund — and balances a growing international solo and chamber career with her orchestral role in Paris.
