Rei Hotoda named Music Director of the Las Vegas Philharmonic

The Las Vegas Philharmonic has appointed Rei Hotoda as its next Music Director, with a four-year contract beginning in July 2026. The announcement was made at a recent performance and followed a search that began in 2024 with input from board members, orchestra musicians, staff, and community representatives.

Hotoda, who guest conducted the orchestra in May 2025, said: “It is an honor to be appointed Music Director of the Las Vegas Philharmonic. From our first collaboration, I felt an extraordinary spirit within this orchestra and a genuine connection to its community. My family and I are delighted to be making Las Vegas our new home, a city brimming with creativity and possibility. I look forward to building on that energy with these remarkable musicians as we shape the Philharmonic’s bright future together.

Board Chair Jeff Crawford welcomed the appointment: “On behalf of the community of Las Vegas, we couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome Rei to our great city and our symphony family.” Artistic consultant Leonard Slatkin added: “It is my great pleasure to welcome Rei Hotoda to the Las Vegas Philharmonic family. Her musicianship, exuberant personality, and leadership will be a treasure for all.

Hotoda will continue as Music Director of the Fresno Philharmonic, where her work has included the multi-season Cultural Crossroads commissioning initiative. According to her biography, she has guest conducted ensembles such as the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Dallas Symphony Orchestra, and appeared with orchestras in Winnipeg, St. Louis, Hawaii, San Diego, Richmond, Kansas City, Detroit, and Las Vegas. She also made a Carnegie Hall appearance with the American Composers Orchestra, conducting world premieres by John Glover and Tonia Ko, alongside the New York premiere of music by Jerod Impichchaachaaha’ Tate.

The Las Vegas Philharmonic indicated that Hotoda’s first season plans will be announced in 2026.
