The Spanish conductor will take up the post in September 2027 for four seasons
The Orchestre national d’Île-de-France (ONDIF) has announced the appointment of Pablo González as its next music director. He will assume the position in September 2027 on a four-season contract.
Born in Oviedo in 1975, González has held leadership positions with the Orquestra Simfònica de Barcelona i Nacional de Catalunya and the RTVE Symphony Orchestra. He is currently principal guest conductor of the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra. Over the past two decades, he has appeared with ensembles including the Helsinki Philharmonic, the Residentie Orkest, the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of Liège, the hr-Sinfonieorchester Frankfurt, and the NDR Radiophilharmonie Hannover.
González has also developed projects aimed at broadening access to classical music. In Barcelona, he launched Et toca a tu, a programme involving children from disadvantaged backgrounds, and he led the orchestra’s participation in the city’s popular Festes de la Mercè.
The appointment is expected to bring a stronger focus on vocal and choral repertoire to the ONDIF, an orchestra that combines a symphonic season in Paris and its region with touring and educational missions.
