In this video, Elisa La Marca presents her first solo album, The Queenes Maskes: A Variety of Lute Music from the Early English Court, released by the Arcana label. The album features a rich selection of music by Dowland, Holborne, Bacheler, Ferrabosco, and other contemporaries, showcasing the versatility and virtuosity of Elizabethan-Jacobean lute music. La Marca, who has performed with renowned ensembles like Il Giardino Armonico and Il Pomo d’Oro, brings a fresh, captivating interpretation to this repertoire.
OVERVIEW
Elisa La Marca graduated in guitar from the Milan Conservatory and in lute under Massimo Lonardi. She studied early music with Rolf Lislevand, Paul O’Dette, and Hopkinson Smith. She has performed as a soloist at international festivals and collaborates with prominent ensembles such as Il Giardino Armonico, Les Musiciens du Prince, and Il Pomo d’Oro.
With a focus on Renaissance lute music, she co-founded the Quartetto di Liuti da Milano in 2012.

BACH: Goldberg Variations, BWV 988: Aria, by Nevermind
This arrangement of the Goldberg Variations Aria allows us to experience the work with new colours and nuances without losing its original richness. The arrangement by Nevermind, featuring Anna Besson, Louis Creac’h, Robin Pharo, and Jean Rondeau, brings a fresh and insightful interpretation to Bach’s iconic piece. Using instruments traditionally found in Bach’s chamber music, such as the flute, violin, viola da gamba, and harpsichord, the ensemble captures the essence of the original composition while adding their own creative voice to the performance. This is part of the album Bach, Goldberg Variations, from Alpha Classics, set to be released in February.

“Nevermind” was founded in 2013 by Anna Besson, Louis Creac’h, Robin Pharo, and Jean Rondeau, united by their love and passion for early music and repertoire from all corners of the world. The quartet’s mission is to share the works they cherish with diverse audiences, focusing on the music of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, especially the flute, violin, viola da gamba, and harpsichord ensemble repertoire. Their performances radiate their deep friendship and genuine enthusiasm for playing together.
