The Polish Royal Opera has announced the appointment of Marta Kluczyńska as its new deputy director, effective from October.
Kluczyńska has worked with the company on several occasions, conducting opera and concert performances. Her career encompasses opera, ballet and symphonic repertoire, and she has combined mainstream works with projects focused on rediscovery and contemporary music.
At the Teatr Wielki – Polish National Opera in Warsaw, she initiated a cycle of concert performances of forgotten Polish operas, including Henryk Jarecki’s Barbara Radziwiłłówna (2022) and Ludomir Różycki’s Beatrix Cenci (2024). Since 2021 she has also been music director of the Polish National Ballet.
Kluczyńska made her conducting debut at Teatr Wielki at the age of 24, later leading productions such as Straszny dwór, Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and new works by Polish composers in the “Projekt P” series. She has also collaborated with opera houses in Poznań, Łódź, Wrocław and Szczecin, as well as with orchestras including Sinfonia Varsovia, the Polish Radio National Symphony Orchestra in Katowice, and Sinfonieorchester Wuppertal.
Founded in 2017, the Polish Royal Opera is today considered one of the two leading opera companies in Poland, alongside the Teatr Wielki – Polish National Opera. Based in Warsaw’s Royal Theatre in Łazienki Park, an 18th-century court theatre built for King Stanisław August Poniatowski, it takes its name from Poland’s royal heritage, and often focuses on Baroque and Classical repertoire.
