Lisa Batiashvili performs new Mozart cadenza by 15-year-old composer Tsotne Zedginidze

A new cadenza by 15-year-old composer and pianist Tsotne Zedginidze accompanies Lisa Batiashvili’s performance of Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 5 in A major, “Turkish,” with the New York Philarmonic under conductor Iván Fischer. The cadenza, written for the first movement of the concerto, marks another chapter in the artistic collaboration between the two Georgian musicians.

Batiashvili also brings her own musical voice to the performance, playing a cadenza of her own in the third movement.

The violinist offered a glimpse into the preparation process through a post on Instagram dated April 19:

Zedginidze, born in 2009, is recognized as one of Georgia’s most promising young musical talents. A pianist and composer from a family of musicians, he has performed at leading venues such as the Philharmonie Berlin and Wiener Konzerthaus, and his compositions have been featured at festivals including Lucerne and Bad Kissingen.

The connection between Batiashvili and Zedginidze is rooted in their shared origins and artistic affinity. Zedginidze is supported by the Lisa Batiashvili Foundation, which promotes emerging Georgian talent. Their collaboration previously included the premiere of his violin sonata at the Tsinandali Festival.

In Mozart’s Concerto No. 5, whose brilliance and charm have made it a favourite of violinists and audiences alike, the addition of Zedginidze’s cadenza offers a new layer of contemporary expression—bridging centuries through shared musical curiosity.
