Video of the week: Jean Rondeau – Louis Couperin’s Prelude OL.46

French harpsichordist Jean Rondeau offers a preview of his monumental upcoming project, Louis Couperin: The Complete Works, with this deeply expressive rendition of the Prelude OL.46, originally written for organ and transcribed here for harpsichord.

Recorded at San Stefano Church in Castelmuzio (Italy) on a Blanchet harpsichord built by Bruce Kennedy, the video captures the unique resonance and meditative tone that have become Rondeau’s signature.

Scheduled for release on 14 November 2025, Louis Couperin: The Complete Works will include ten CDs and one DVD, encompassing all known works by Louis Couperin, alongside selected pieces by his contemporaries and pupils. The accompanying film by Erwan Ricordeau, shot at Colmar’s Unterlinden Museum, offers rare insights into Rondeau’s relationship with the composer and the instruments he celebrates.
