The Frankfurt Radio Symphony closes its 2024–25 Große Reihe season with a compelling program that bridges centuries, styles, and continents — and it’s available to stream for free on YouTube.

Under the baton of Alain Altinoglu, the evening opens with *Stravinsky’s Symphonies d’instruments à vent, a sharply etched homage to Debussy and to the sound world of wind instruments in all their bold clarity. The concert continues with two appearances by Thierry Escaich, the orchestra’s composer-in-residence: a solo organ improvisation and his Cello Concerto No. 2, Les chants de l’aube, performed by star soloist Gautier Capuçon. Drawing inspiration from Bach’s vocal writing, the concerto explores songlike expression and dramatic contrasts.

The evening culminates with Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9, “From the New World” — a work shaped by the composer’s American experience but rooted in Czech lyricism. From the iconic English horn solo in the slow movement to its exuberant finale, Dvořák’s symphony remains a touchstone of orchestral repertoire.

The stream is presented by hr-Sinfonieorchester from the Alte Oper Frankfurt. Duration: approximately 120 minutes, including an intermission.
