✨ About the Performance
The SWR Symphonieorchester presents a compelling programme that bridges the 20th and 21st centuries, highlighting the works of Kaija Saariaho, Witold Lutosławski, and Claude Debussy. Central to the evening is Saariaho’s violin concerto Graal théâtre, performed by renowned German violinist Carolin Widmann. Saariaho composed this piece in 1994 as a tribute to Lutosławski, whose Mała suita opens the concert. Saariaho’s earlier work, Verblendungen, showcases her innovative use of tape alongside live orchestra. The programme concludes with Debussy’s evocative La mer, reflecting the impressionist textures that influenced Saariaho’s soundscapes.
