The fifth installment of Boris Giltburg’s Beethoven Sonata Cycle comes live from Wigmore Hall in London. This performance includes four sonatas that span various stages of Beethoven’s creative evolution, from the luminous and compact Op. 78 to the introspective depth of Op. 101. The programme also features the Piano Sonata No. 12, nicknamed the “Funeral March,” and the energetic Sonata Op. 31 No. 1.
Giltburg’s journey through Beethoven’s piano sonatas began during the composer’s 250th anniversary year in 2020, when he recorded and filmed all 32 sonatas across the year. His ongoing commitment to the cycle combines musical insight with a personal, narrative-driven approach that has drawn praise from critics and audiences alike.
