✨ About the performance
In celebration of Arvo Pärt’s 90th birthday, the Prague Spring International Music Festival welcomes the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir for a special tribute concert in the city’s iconic Dvořák Hall. Under the direction of Tõnu Kaljuste, a longtime collaborator of the composer, and joined by organist Kadri Toomoja, the ensemble presents an all-Pärt program that spans the breadth of his sacred output.
The concert includes the luminous Magnificat in Latin, the ethereal The Deer’s Cry based on a traditional Irish prayer, and the recent Vater unser, a compact yet powerful meditation in German. These works reflect Pärt’s distinctive tintinnabuli style — a sound world shaped by stillness, clarity, and a deeply personal sense of spirituality.
Presented by medici.tv, this performance brings together one of the world’s most respected choirs with music that continues to move listeners across generations and cultures.
🔍 Overview: Arvo Pärt
Born in 1935 in Estonia, Arvo Pärt is one of the most influential composers of our time. After early experiments with serialism, he turned to early music and sacred texts, developing a minimalist style he called tintinnabuli — inspired by the sound of bells and medieval chant. His works, often religious in character, are marked by emotional clarity and spiritual depth.
Pärt’s music has been widely performed across the globe and embraced by audiences beyond traditional classical circles. His major works include Tabula Rasa, Fratres, Te Deum, and Passio. In 2010, he was named the most performed living composer in the world by Bachtrack — a title he retained for many years.
