Text:
The Estonian Festival Orchestra and Paavo Järvi return to the Elbphilharmonie to honour one of the most influential living composers, Arvo Pärt, on his 90th birthday. This free live stream from Hamburg brings together some of Pärt’s most profound and meditative works, performed by musicians who share deep artistic and personal ties to the composer’s legacy.

Founded by Järvi in 2011 through the Pärnu Music Festival, the Estonian Festival Orchestra has become one of the most distinctive ensembles to emerge from the Baltic region, known for its clarity of sound and unity of purpose. The concert’s programme reflects the spiritual and sonic purity that define Pärt’s music — from the introspective Fratres and Summa to the elegiac Cantus in memoriam Benjamin Britten and the hypnotic Tabula rasa, featuring violinists Hans Christian Aavik and Midori.

This performance is part of the Elbphilharmonie’s Spotlight: Arvo Pärt series, celebrating the composer’s unique voice and his enduring influence on contemporary music. The concert will be streamed live and free on the Elbphilharmonie Mediatheque.
