Alexandre Bloch named Music Director of RTVE Symphony, Korovitch expands role

The Orquesta Sinfónica y Coro RTVE has announced a new artistic leadership team beginning in the 2026–27 season. French conductor Alexandre Bloch will become Music Director of the orchestra, while Marc Korovitch expands his commitment as Chief Conductor of the RTVE Choir and takes on the role of Principal Guest Conductor of the orchestra.

Bloch to succeed Christoph König

Bloch, born in Angers in 1985, will succeed Christoph König, whose tenure as chief conductor concludes in May 2026. In his first statements, Bloch said he was “delighted to embark on this fascinating musical adventure alongside the wonderful musicians of the Orchestra,” praising their “quality of listening, concentration and musical ideas.” He expressed his wish to build with them “a strong and beautiful sound identity, unique to the RTVE Symphony Orchestra and Choir.”

Bloch first came to international attention after winning the Donatella Flick Conducting Competition in 2012, establishing a close relationship with the London Symphony Orchestra. Since then, he has appeared with major ensembles including the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Philharmonia Orchestra, Rotterdam Philharmonic, and Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen. Between 2016 and 2024 he was Music Director of the Orchestre National de Lille, where he spearheaded ambitious programming, championed new music, and developed outreach initiatives. He is equally active in opera, with appearances at the Bayerische Staatsoper, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Opéra de Lyon, and Opéra de Lille.

Korovitch extends commitment until 2029

Alongside Bloch’s appointment, Marc Korovitch will broaden his responsibilities. Already Chief Conductor of the RTVE Choir since 2024, he will also become Principal Guest Conductor of the orchestra, succeeding Thomas Dausgaard in May 2026. Korovitch described the ensembles as “exceptional” and praised their “special role in the cultural life of the country.”

Born in Paris in 1987, Korovitch studied conducting at the Sorbonne, the Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris, and the Haute École de Musique de Genève. His career spans collaborations with leading vocal groups such as Accentus and the Chœur de Radio France, and orchestral work with Concerto Köln, the Orchestre National de Montpellier, and the Hague Chamber Orchestra. He has collaborated with conductors including Simon Rattle, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Klaus Mäkelä and Lahav Shani, and remains active as a pedagogue and jury member in international competitions.
