Argentine composer Alex Nante (b. 1992) has built a distinctive musical voice that blends dreamlike atmospheres with spiritual symbolism. His works often open doors to an inner, nocturnal world — one that has already resonated in some of the world’s most important concert halls. In 2025, his Third Symphony, Anāhata was premiered at the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg by Kent Nagano and the Staatsorchester Hamburg, with singers Mojca Erdmann, Evan Hughes, organist Olivier Latry, and the Audi choir.
Nante’s career has been marked by high-profile collaborations. In 2024, he became the first recipient of the Prix Pisar, a partnership between the Juilliard School, Villa Albertine, and Théâtre des Champs-Élysées. His piece A Subtle Chain was premiered by soprano Jodie Devos and Les Siècles under François-Xavier Roth. Earlier works include El Río de Luz, premiered by the Los Angeles Philharmonic and Gustavo Dudamel, and O nata lux, given by the Haydn Orchestra of Bolzano with Nagano. During his 2021–2023 residency with the Orchestre National de Lille, he produced three major scores, among them Sinfonía del cuerpo de luz and Mystérion, and collaborated with pianist Alexandre Tharaud on the concerto Luz de lejos, later released on Warner Classics.
Terra Lucida
In Buenos Aires, Nante recently founded the vocal ensemble Terra Lucida, under the auspices of the Fundación Vocación Humana. The group is dedicated to sacred music from East and West, performed with a strong social mission that includes appearances in hospitals and intercultural dialogue projects.
In connection with Terra Lucida, Nante has released a new album, available on all streaming platforms:
Upcoming and ongoing projects
Alongside Terra Lucida, Nante continues to receive commissions from leading institutions. His homage to Bach, Ein feste Burg, will be premiered in October 2025 by the Dresdner Philharmonie under Kent Nagano. He is also preparing two monographic CDs: one with Ensemble Écoute (B Records) and another with pianist Vanessa Wagner (La Scala).
A personal vision
Trained as a guitarist, pianist, and conductor, Nante studied with Sir George Benjamin, Peter Eötvös, Stefano Gervasoni, and others, completing a doctorate at King’s College London. His music is published by Durand / Universal Music Publishing Classical and Éditions Henry Lemoine. Beyond his academic path and international awards, Nante describes his artistic drive simply:
“My music is an attempt to evoke mystery, the ineffable, resonating in dreams, images, symbols, and experiences. At its core, it is a devotion to the mystery expressed in sound and silence.”
