OVERVIEW
Aida tells the story of an impossible love caught in the midst of war. The Ethiopian princess Aida, enslaved in Egypt, is secretly in love with the Egyptian warrior Radamés—who returns her feelings. However, their love is overshadowed by duty and politics: Radamés is chosen to lead Egypt’s army against Ethiopia, while the Pharaoh’s daughter, Amneris, also desires him.
As Radamés wins a decisive battle and unknowingly captures Aida’s father, King Amonasro, tensions rise. Torn between loyalty to her homeland and her love for Radamés, Aida faces an impossible choice. When Radamés is accused of treason, the lovers make a final, tragic decision—one that seals their fate beneath the sands of Egypt.
Verdi’s Aida is an opera of monumental scale, with grand choruses, powerful arias, and one of the most famous triumphal marches in opera history.
